The INSIC roadmap states that the capacity of one tape cartridge in 2029 is 723TB, the recording density (278Gbpsi) at this time is about the same as that of HDD products in 2008. 1PB cartridge may become a reality in the future.
Damages from cyber attacks have increased significantly since last year. Tape cartridges can be removed and stored offline, the physically separated "air gap" protects the data from unauthorized encryption and tampering.
Some people still think tape is an old technology with many trouble handling. However the latest LTO tapes are made from components with strong durability, going through many environment testing before shipment.
